Militants late on Monday night carried out a powerful mine blast on a railway track near Wanbal Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar, damaging a portion of the track.

Police said no one was injured in the explosion which caused damage to the track and also shattered glass panes of some adjoining houses.

The south-north rail plies everyday from Qazigund town to Baramulla.

The track and other railway property were damaged extensively and rail services remained disrupted for several months during the last summer's unrest in Kashmir.

The service had resumed only two months back after massive efforts by the railways. During the unrest, the railway staff had also shifted out of the Valley.

The officer said efforts are on to restore the damaged portion of the track.
