Uttar Pradesh IPS officer D D Misra, who was put under psychiatric treatment at the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University in Lucknow after he sought to term the Mayawati government as "most corrupt", now wants to be discharged from hospital.
Misra, who has been visibly incoherent since Saturday, when he first blasted the state government, was diagnosed with 'bipolar effective disorder' by none other than the medical university psychiatry department head Dr P K Dalal under whose treatment he was admitted at the university trauma centre.
While the private ward in which Misra is admitted has been kept out of bounds for all other than his own family members, Misra, on Monday, is said to have expressed his desire to go home.
"Yes, Mr Misra was quite inclined to go back home, but his own family members as well as the team of psychiatrists attending him, do not find it advisable to discharge him so soon," said hospital medical superintendent Dr S N Sankhwar.
According to Sankhwar, "the patient is progressing well but would have to remain under observation for the next few days at least, while he would have to undergo long-term treatment."
Sankhwar also said that visitors were not allowed to call on Misra. "His mind requires rest, so only his family members are allowed to be with him," he added.
