Facing embarrassment on account of its senior official being accused of human trafficking, the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday said it was waiting to probe to take its course.
"All I can say at the moment is that he has proceeded on leave and we will wait for the investigations to take their course," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters when asked about the issue concerning Special Secretary (Economic Relations) Rakesh Kumar who has been named by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a case of alleged human trafficking to Germany.
Queried about Kumar's whereabouts, he said he was not aware of 'details.' There were other reports that he has been admitted to a hospital in Munich on his way back from Brazil.
The CBI has filed a case against the 1972 batch Indian Foreign Service officer for allegedly engaging in human trafficking along with certain other people during his previous tenure as Director General of Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
