Mayawati dissolves all committees of BSP

May 20, 2014 16:10 IST

Faced with one of the worst showing in the Lok Sabha polls, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Tuesday dissolved all the committees of the party.

The BSP supremo, who reviewed the party's performance with office bearers and leaders at a meeting at the party office, dissolved all the assembly, district and state-level committees of the party, BSP sources said.

Mayawati's party, which had 20 MPs in the last Lok Sabha, failed to open its account in the just-concluded elections.

The party chief would now be reorganising all the committees after taking stock of the ground situation, the sources said.

The party would also have new coordinators as the role of some of them has come in for attack because of the bad showing at the hustings, the sources said, adding the coordinators have been charged with misinforming the party chief about the Lok Sabha preparations and the mood of the public.

The party chief interacted with the leaders and personally questioned them on the reasons which led to one of party's worst performances especially in Uttar Pradesh where its vote percentage has also come down.

Mayawati came down heavily on the party leaders and pulled them up for their laxity during the elections.

The BSP supremo had indicated that she would be restructuring the party organisation to prepare for the next assembly elections and rejuvenating the cadres.

Mayawati, who held separate meetings with leaders of different states, made certain changes in the organisation and issued directives to them to prepare for the future.

Speaking on the occasion, she said besides taking full advantage of the failure of Congress-led central government, BJP and its NDA coalition "misled" the people through every means be it "casteism, communalism or issuing wrong statements".

"Even after all this, BJP got only 31 per cent votes at the national level thereby meaning that 70 per cent voters rejected it...despite this its government would be formed and their divisive policies would be imposed on the country", a release quoted the BSP leader as saying.

"It is for the first time that a party with only 31 per cent votes has got full majority and the reason is that 'non missionary' Muslims, OBC and upper caste voters got divided and went with the SP and BJP", she said.

"Dalit vote stood rock solid for the honour of BSP...had a little vote of these sections (Muslims, OBCs and upper castes) come to BSP, BJP would not have managed such an unprecedented success", she said.

The former chief minister said the present situation would give birth to new challenges for which BSP requires to put in a lot of hard work and labour to enhance its base among the 'Sarv Samaj' and would have to work at every level to win over the faith and trust of people, she said.

Mayawati would be holding a separate meeting tomorrow to discuss the party's performance in UP.
