Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati will not attend the United Progressive Alliance-II anniversary celebrations and the subsequent dinner in New Delhi on Saturday.

Instead, Mayawati has organised statewide demonstrations by her partymen to protest against "rising prices" for which she holds the UPA solely responsible.

According to a source close to the chief minister, "She has turned down an invitation for dinner to be hosted by  prime minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Saturday."

Mayawati had detailed each of her ministers to lead the demonstrations in different districts .

In Lucknow, the protest rally would be led by Mayawati's close confidante and multi-portfolio minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui , just outside the district collectorate.
