The Delhi police have arrested Hari Kishan, the mastermind of the sensational Rs 5.25 crore heist in the capital. The police have also recovered Rs 2.36 crore from the accused, a senior police officer said.
"Four main accused, who were involved in Friday's incident, are yet to be arrested," said Joint Commissioner of Police (south-western range) Vivek Gogia.
It was revealed during the investigation that Hari Kishan met Mukesh, one of the main accused of the heist who has evaded arrest so far, in Tihar jail in 2009.
Hari Kishan was in jail in connection with a murder case while Mukesh had been incarcerated over a cheating case.
Hari Kishan had asked Mukesh alias Jackson to give him relevant information to carry out a major robbery, a police source said.
They conducted a reconnaissance of Lajpat Nagar and defence colony areas, a month before the robbery.
Whenever local guards questioned them about their presence near the vault office without any reason, Hari Kishan would flash his old identity card and say that he wanted to get a job for his friend Mukesh, who was waiting for the vault's manager.
They were present there on the day of the incident with a bike owned by Mukesh. Once the cash van left the vault office, they informed another accused about its movement.
After carrying out the heist, robbers abandoned the car a few km away in Hauz Rani. Later, empty cash boxes were found in South Delhi's Khirki village, where the police deployed personnel in plain clothes for surveillance.
The police are yet to reveal details of the place he was arrested from. According to sources, he was trying to escape to London via Nepal.
