Maoists force closure of luxury hotel in Nepal

The Fishtail Lodge in the lake city was shut down after the All Nepal Trade Union Federation brought all the services to halt on Monday, forcing the hotel management to shift around 110 tourists, including ten Indians, to other hotels in the city, Nepal's tourism ministry sources said.

Coming under pressure from the trade union backed by Maoists, who are the largest party in the ruling coalition, the workers of the hotel halted all their services, a senior hotel staff said. The guests had to be shifted to three other hotels, as it was not certain when the services will resume in the hotel, he added.

The union vowed to continue the protest till the security guard, who has was sacked by the management due to unsatisfactory performance during probationary period, gets the job back.

The union shut down the hotel after a meeting between the hotel management and the workers to settle the issue ended inconclusively.
