A top leader of the Communist Party of India -Maoist has gone missing and the organisation suspects that he is in the custody of special investigations bureau of Andhra Pradesh police.
CPI Maoist central committee member Varanasi Subhramaniam was missing for the last four days after he failed to establish contact with the couriers on appointed time on June 17.
CPI-Maoist sources told rediff.com that 55-year-old Subhramanyam was last seen in New Delhi railway station where he had met some people. After that he failed to keep the appointment with other contact persons and did not reach Vadodra in Gujarat as per his program. Sources said that he also did not reach the shelter where he was supposed to stay.
"Though he was in Delhi, it is normally the SIB of Andhra Pradesh that carries out illegal detentions of our leaders," sources said apprehending serious threat to his life.
Though hailing from Visakhapatanam in Andhra Pradesh, Subhramanyam has been active outside the state for last 20 years and of late he was looking after party's activities in North India. In the past, he also held several responsibilities in Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier, the Maoists had also expressed similar apprehensions about another central committee member Azad after he failed to establish contact with other party members. But later he was found to be safe.
