February 11, 2011 10:33 IST

Armed Maoists blasted railway tracks between Kurhni and Turkey railway stations in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, police said on Friday.

Over 50 ultras triggered a mini cylinder blast badly damaging the tracks at a place between Kurhni and Turkey railway stations late on Thursday night, Additional Director General of Police (Rail) S K Bhardwaj said.

Rail traffic in the section which was disrupted for more than 3 hours as a result of blast, resumed at 4 am after the railway authorities repaired the tracks, he said.

Maoists had called a 24-hour bandh in Tirhut area to protest the arrest of their 'commander'. The bandh ended on Thursday night.

The Naxalites had on Thursday burnt seven trucks and some equipment belonging to a private telecom operator in Muzaffarpur and east Champaran districts to enforce the bandh.
