In a rare honour for an Indian doctor, national president-elect of Indian Medical Association, Sanjiv Malik has been named among the 65 'Caring Physicians of the World' by the World Medical Association.
A recipient of B C Roy National Award, the country's highest honour for the medical profession, Malik was named in a unique publication titled 'Caring Physicians of the World', which profiled 65 physicians from 55 countries.
The book was published recently by the WMA, an independent confederation of associations of doctors of medicine, and Malik is the only Indian featured in it. He was nominated by the Indian Medical Association for 'demonstrating the highest standards of medical care, medical ethics and medical science'.
Launching the book in Santiago, Chile, recently, WMA President Yank Coble said, "We seek the most caring physicians of the world and we want the world to know who they are. As a group, they will represent the finest traditions of our great profession and show how our physicians today are working to the highest professional standards in different cultures and under different pressures."
Delhi-based Malik, who fought for the rights of doctors as chairman of the All India Resident Doctors Association, was elected national president of IMA for 2005-2006.
Besides his health communication venture, Mediworld, he also organises free medical camps under the banner of National Health Foundation.
