Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad on Tuesday had the Lok Sabha in splits when he suggested that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should be selected as the first Lokpal as he was an honest person.
The entire House burst into laughter and even Singh was seen smiling.
Referring to the selection process of Lokpal, he said during the debate on Lokpal Bill that he could not find anyone else as honest as the prime minister. He received instant support from several members.
"You can make someone else as Prime Minister," he said addressing the Treasury Benches. Launching a broadside against Anna Hazare, Prasad said the activist was holding agitations on virtually every issue and he was concerned about his health.
Claiming that Hazare's life is precious, Prasad suggested setting up an All-India Anna Hazare Swasthya Bachao Samiti (protect health committee). Referring to a letter written by Hazare, he claimed that politicians have been dubbed as worse than terrorists.
Reading out the letter, he said Hazare had written that politicians get elected to become servants but turn into owners.
