Two ministers witnesses in Madhumita case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has named two Uttar Pradesh ministers, three Indian Police Service officers, one Indian Administrative Service officer and several journalists among the 190 witnesses in the Madhumita murder case charge sheet filed against former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi and five others.

The CBI had filed the charge sheet in the matter on Friday last in the CBI court naming Tripathi, his wife Madhumani suspended SHO Y N Dixit, Rohit Chaturvedi, Prakash Chandra Pandey and Santosh Rai as accused.

The charge sheet also contained the names of some state civil service officers, two doctors, some engineers and officials of some five star hotels as witnesses, the sources said.

The written statement of witnesses has been made a part of the investigation, they added.

Although some of the officials associated with the investigation of the case have been made witnesses, their statement had not been recorded.

The ministers named in the CBI list of witnesses are Shyam Narain Tewari and Hari Shankar Tewari. It also includes the names of Amarmani's brother Ajitmani Tripathi, former legislator Brijesh Pathak and Vidhan Parishad member Ganesh Shankar Pandey, sources said.

The charge sheet also contained the written statement of then SSP of Lucknow Anil Agarwal, former SP of CB-CID Amita Bhyash, Additional SP Satyendra Veer Singh. The name of circle officer of Mahanagar police station, under whose area the residence of the slain poetess falls, is also mentioned in the list.
