Lunar eclipse Tuesday night

May 03, 2004 17:55 IST

India and several other parts of the world will witness a lunar eclipse in the early hours of Wednesday.

"The partial phase of the eclipse will begin at about 12.18 am on 5th May," Director, Nehru Planetarium, Dr N Rathnasree said in New Delhi on Monday.

"The total phase of the lunar eclipse will begin at about 1:32 am and end at 2:38 am," she said adding the partial phase of the eclipse would end at 3:42 am.

The eclipse will be visible from all over the country, she said.

However, India is not well placed to view the next lunar eclipse on October 28, 2004, as the moon will set soon after the eclipse starts.

It will be visible from most of the Americas, as well as western portions of Europe and Africa.
