Last updated on: November 22, 2006 13:32 IST

The Rajya Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned for the day after paying homage to its departed members and observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to them.

Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat paid rich tributes to sitting member Lalit Suri (Independent), who passed away recently.

He also commended the role of Bahujan Samajwadi Party founder Kanshi Ram, although the Dalit leader was not a sitting member of either House.

Generally, Parliament is adjourned in case of death of a sitting member.

The House also paid tributes to Sriman Prafulla Goswami, Lalitha Rajagopalan, Ahmad Hossain Mondal and Santosh Kumar Sahu.
