Two tiffin bombs, suspected to be planted by Maoists to target security forces and polling parties during the Lok Sabha elections, were uncovered by authorities in the insurgency-hit Kanker district of Chhattisgarh.
Kanker is among the three Lok Sabha seats going to polls on Thursday, in the second phase of Chhattisgarh elections.
“Two tiffin bombs of 10 kg each were found at separate places on Mandagaon-Mendra road under Badgaon police station limits on Tuesday evening,” said a senior police officer.
A joint squad of 127 battalion of the Border Security Force and a team of local police were on an exercise to ensure security when they found the tiffins containing Improvised Explosives Device at two separate locations. Later, the bomb disposal squad defused the explosives.
In a separate incident, two Naxalites carrying rewards on their heads, were arrested from Narayanpur district on Tuesday evening. Identified as Rajman Salaam and Vinod Korram, the duo was nabbed by a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force and district force from the forces under Jhara police station limits.
Security personnel were on a combing operation when they rounded up the duo, who later admitted to their involvement in the Naxal movement. They were each carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 and were involved in several incidents of crime, including loot, arson and murder, said a police official.
