Janata Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav on Tuesday charged that the Ram Temple issue was the Bharatiya Janata Party's hidden agenda and the party has chosen Varanasi as the epicentre to spread communalism in the country.

"The BJP's hidden agenda was Ram temple issue and they want to spread communalism in the entire country for which they had chosen Varanasi as its centre to commence," Yadav told mediapersons in Varanasi. The JD-U chief is in the temple town to campaign for Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who is taking on the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, saying his party is extending support to Kejriwal in order to save the country from communal forces.

Yadav is holding various public meetings in the city in which he is appealing the people to support Kejriwal and not to get fooled by the so-called Gujarat development model.

He visited the residence of late environmentalist Veer Bhadra Mishra at Tulsi ghat here to pay him a floral tribute. Yadav said, in his political career spanning over 40 years, he had raised the issue of Ganga several times in the parliament, for implementing measures so that the river may be saved from getting polluted and added that if the river won't be saved then people might face water crisis in near future.
