April 24, 2014 16:01 IST

After casting his ballot in Dispur, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dismissed claims of a Modi wave sweeping the country and said it was just a creation of the media.

“I don’t think there is any Modi wave. It is the creation of the media. The country has not been swept by any Modi wave,” said Singh outside the polling booth in Dispur government higher secondary school with his wife Gursharan Kaur.

When asked about the Congress, he replied, “I don’t think the Congress is losing ground. Wait for the results on May 16. We will win a majority.” He also urged all citizens to participate in the democratic process and cast their vote.

Earlier, Singh arrived at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in a special Indian Air Force aircraft from the capital and then flew in an IAF helicopter to Khanapara where he was received by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Singh and his wife drove to the voting centre where they cast their votes and left for the airport to return to Delhi. Singh has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha since 1991.
