Panic gripped Khanyar area of Srinagar on Sunday after an explosion was heard during an election rally of Union Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah.

A police spokesman said, "There has been a huge sound at Khanyar. Police are investigating the matter".

Eyewitnesses said an explosion was heard in Khanyar area, falling in the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, as Abdullah was arriving for the election rally.

They said the explosion, which sounded like a grenade blast, caused panic among the people who had assembled to hear the National Conference president.
