BJP will put up its best performance this election: Advani

March 16, 2014 20:43 IST

Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani on Sunday said the Lok Sabha elections next month will see his party put up its best-ever performance.

"Unite and create a miracle," Advani said, addressing party workers at a meeting of the Sindhi cell of BJP in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

He said BJP's best tally in Lok Sabha to date was 182, but it will be bettered this time.

"While Congress will see its lowest-ever figures, the post-emergency election saw lowest strength of the Congress in the Lok Sabha. This time, it will be much lower," the BJP leader said.

"We should have become the greatest country in the world in the 20th century itself, but could not, because of poverty and lack of education," he said.

Lauding the achievements of the Sindhi community, he said the community had done well in all spheres of life despite being uprooted from Sindh during the Partition.

"In 1947, the population of Sindh was 45 lakh, out of which 11 lakh were Hindus. The RSS shakhas saw presence of 20,000 people daily. There were 51 pracharaks in Sindh," he reminisced.

The community had flourished in Karachi, Hyderabad (Sindh) and elsewhere, but even after being uprooted, Sindhis did not give up hope and went on to establish schools and colleges in Mumbai where they resettled, he said.

Advani also made an appeal to the Sindhi community in Maharashtra to work for the victory of the candidates of BJP as well as ally Shiv Sena.
