Confronted by Narendra Modi's spectacular rise, the Congress has informally made Priyanka Gandhi in charge of its campaign in Uttar Pradesh where Modi is gaining ground.

UP Congress boss Nirmal Khatri is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Faizabad and Congress General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry has succeeded in making him an unpopular figure among Congressmen.

Priyanka is set to play a big role in ticket distribution, campaign design and backroom activities.

She is assisted by a core team consisting of Mohan Gopal, Deependra Singh Hooda, Sam Pitroda and Nandan Nilekani.
