The government is planning a special Parliament session in mid January next year for the Lokpal Bill, sources told rediff.com.
The United Progressive Alliance government is apprehensive that if the bill is introduced in the present form, it might get defeated in the Rajya Sabha where Bharatiya Janata Party has a majority.
Anna Hazare has threatened another indefinite fast and a 'jail bharo andolan' if the Lokpal Bill is not passed in this session itself, but the government is hard pressed to do that by December 22, when the current session ends, as there was no consensus at Wednesday's all-party meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
With the deadline looming, the government hopes to be able to bell the cat at a special session of the Parliament.
