Lokpal Bill fiasco to come up when PM, BJP leaders meet President

January 02, 2012 18:35 IST

President Pratibha Patil, who is on a ten-day vacation in Hyderabad, is expected to meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders when she returns to New Delhi.

The Lokpal Bill fiasco that played out in the Rajya Sabha will be the main topic of discussion when the top leaders meet with the President.

While the prime minister, as part of his Constitutinal obligation, will brief the President on the functioning of the Parliament session that ended a few days back, the BJP is expected to present a detailed memorandum of the United Progressive Alliance government's 'choreographed' drama inside Rajya Sabha, drafted by the BJP parliamentary party.

The President will be back in Delhi on Wednesday and will meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and BJP leaders on Thursday.

President Patil may also receive leaders of major political parties. While there are eight requests pending with the President secretariat from political parties, Patil will meet BJP leaders L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley since they are from the principal Opposition party.

The BJP memorandum also lists out the sequence of events -- how the Core Committee authorised its leader to contact the President in Hyderabad to seek consent to extend the session beyond midnight on December 29.
