Nalini Sriharan, an accused in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case, is on the verge of getting a degree in Masters in Computer Applications from the Indira Gandhi National Open University.
IGNOU Regional Director Dr Pannerselvam confirmed that Nalini had been pursuing a correspondence course and said she seemed to be a good student.
Nalini's husband Sriharan alias Murugan and other accused A G Perarivalan are also students of the MCA course, but are junior to Nalini by a year.
Dr Pannerselvam added that her project assignment was on the verge of completion and if she finishes her course successfully, she would be the first jail inmate to be awarded with an MCA degree.
Nalini was a graduate when she was imprisoned and has reportedly done extremely well in the MCA course -- which is considered a tough course.
Nalini was initially sentenced to death in the assassination case of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, which was later reduced to life term.
This information about Rajiv Gandhi's assailants was made available on the occasion of All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to Chennai.
The police had updated themselves with all information about the convicts in the assassination case, as Rahul is considered a 'high security' individual.
There had been strong rumours that Rahul would meet the convicts like his sister Priyanka Vadra Gandhi did earlier. But Rahul did not visit the prison.
