War Room leak: No bail for main accused

May 31, 2007 16:30 IST

Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected the bail application of Kulbushan Parashar, one of the main accused in the naval war room leak case, saying his release could lead to tampering of the evidence.

Dismissing his bail application, Justice S Ravinder Bhat said 'there is a chance of tampering with the evidence because the main accused Ravi Shankaran has not been arrested yet.

"On these grounds I don't find any merit in the application and I dismiss the application," the judge said.

Parashar, who was arrested by the CBI upon his arrival from London in April last year, had approached the High Court after failing to get any relief from the lower court.

A former Naval Commander, Parashar is alleged to have entered into a criminal conspiracy with other accused including Shankaran and Delhi-based businessman Abishek Verma, already in judicial custody since July last year, and managed to take out details from the war room leak case which were detrimental to the country's security.

The former naval commander had claimed in his application before the High court, that he had been framed by the CBI in this case.

Shankaran, nephew of the former Naval Chief Arun Prakash, is at present holed up in the United Kingdom and India has already initiated legal proceeding against him. A court in London has also issued an arrest warrant against him.
