Law will take its course, says Karuna on Raja's bail plea

May 09, 2012 21:13 IST

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said the law would take its own course on the bail plea moved by former telecom minister A Raja, an accused in the 2G spectrum scam.

"All will happen as per law," he said when reporters sought his reaction to Raja moving a Delhi court seeking bail for the first time in the 2G scam.

Asked whether Raja would be released, he quipped, "Why not? When (M R P) Ravanan can be released, why not Raja?" apparently referring to the bail secured by the relative of Sasikala, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's aide.

Ravanan was arrested in January on charges of abduction for ransom, extortion and criminal conspiracy.

Replying to another question whether Raja would be accorded a similar welcome as extended to his daughter Kanimozhi, a co-accused in the case, he said, "We will think about it."

Fifteen months after his arrest in the 2G scam, the DMK leader moved a Delhi court for bail on the ground of parity with other 13 accused who all have been granted the relief.
