Peter Mukerjea arrested, taken to court: Latest in Sheena murder case

On Thursday, media magnate Peter Mukerjea was arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case. Here are the top developments in the story.

 
1.

Peter Mukerjea has told the CBI that he was aware that Sheena Bora had been killed and that he played along.

Charges against Mukerjea have yet to be framed. The CBI says that Peter knew of Sheena's murder but has not been charged with murder.

The CBI tells the court that Peter had falsely told his son Rahul that he had spoken to Sheena when he knew that she was dead.

The CBI says that Peter was on a call during and after Sheena's murder. Rahul also told the CBI that he had recorded his father's phone call where he said he had just spoken to Sheena in the US.

The CBI said that Peter's phone call to Rahul was made after Sheena's death.

 CBI seeks 14-day custody of Peter Mukerjea; Agency tells court he was involved in conspiracy with wife Indrani.

Former media magnate Peter Mukerjea, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the sensational Sheena Bora murder case for allegedly “shielding the accused”, will be produced in a magistrate’s court in Mumbai on Friday.

Peter was booked under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to causing the disappearance of evidence of offence, or providing false information.

Peter Mukerjea’s wife Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai will also be brought to the court since their judicial custody expires on Friday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to name a senior official of the Mumbai Police in the chargesheet in the Sheena Bora murder case. According to sources, the CBI may name the police official for allegedly delaying the investigation in the case.

Peter’s son Rahul was questioned by the CBI for over 12 hours on Thursday night. Rahul was asked whether he and Sheena had revealed to Peter that Sheena was not Indrani's sister but her daughter, the sources said. He was also asked if he had raised concerns about Sheena's safety after she disappeared in 2012, they said.

When asked about the developments, Mikhail Bora said, “I've said it time and time again, I will cooperate with the CBI 100 per cent. I am seeking justice for my sister and I hope will get it soon.”.
