Former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad on Tuesday appeared before a special Central Bureau of Investigation court, which recorded his statement in connection with a fodder scam case.

The court of Pravas Kumar Singh recorded the statements in the case pertaining to alleged fraudulent withdrawal of nearly Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa treasury between 1992 and 1995.

Lalu faces charges in six fodder cases -- five in Ranchi and one in Patna.

He had been acquitted by a Patna court in a disproportionate assets case, related to the fodder scam, in 2006.

A total of 41 out of 53 cases were completed in convictions with over 300 people being convicted in the Rs 950 crore scam, which was unearthed in 1996.

Later, another former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra recorded his statement in the same case.

One of the key accused, R K Rana, was among others who recorded their statements in the court.
