After introducing kulhads (earthen pots) for serving tea at railway stations, Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav has decided to promote mathakola (buttermilk) among rail commuters.
"The railway authorities should ensure that mathakola is available at railway stations for the commuters as an alternative to soft drinks," he said on Sunday night during a brief stopover at the Allahabad junction on his way to New Delhi.
The minister expressed confidence that mathakola, if served in kulhads, besides promoting the business of potters and milkmen, would become a runaway success.
Hundreds of people had reached the junction to see the leader.
Yadav said he would strive for improvement in quality of rail service.
He said railway infrastructure would be modernised quickly with special emphasis on safety measures.
