Bollywood actor and former Censor Board chairman Anupam Kher on Monday said he might withdraw the defamation case he had filed against Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet.
Kher is mulling over withdrawing the case after a Mumbai court hearing the matter adjourned it to May 16 as the Left leader failed to appear in court.
"This being the sixth time the case is getting adjourned, I am planning to withdraw the case against Singh not out of sympathy towards him or his ill-health," he told media outside the court.
"Singh is not above law. I am a busy man, and just adjourning the matter will not take us anywhere," he said.
Earlier, Singh's lawyer informed sessions judge M H Belosay, who is hearing the case, that the Bombay high court had stayed till May two the bailable warrants issued against Singh for failing to appear in court despite summons.
Kher had filed a defamation case against the CPI (M) leader for allegedly defaming him in articles published in the party's mouthpiece, by describing him as an 'RSS agent' and alleging that he (Kher) had saffronised the Censor Board as its chairman.
