Saad Ali Khan, son-in-law of disgraced Pakistan nuclear scientist Abdul  Qadeer Khan, has been released on bail, 3 days after being arrested for allegedly assaulting British diplomats.

Judicial Magistrate of Islamabad Hadayatullah Shah released Khan on a surety of Rs 2 lakh. Khan's counsel Baber Awan claimed that facts had been concealed in the First Information Report filed by the police.

He said his client had politely asked the British diplomats, Lee Balch and his spouse Rose Lee,  to move their vehicle from the street corner.

"In response, Lee verbally abused Khan and made obscene gestures at him," he told the magistrate on Wednesday.

The counsel claimed that a heated argument took place between his client and the complainant during which the infuriated diplomat attacked his client.

Awan argued that his client had reacted in self defence. He said the British diplomat's behaviour was an infringement of diplomatic norms.

The lawyer later told reporters that Khan had plans to sue the diplomats.
