Kerala: PDP to back LDF in the Assembly polls

March 31, 2006 15:12 IST

The People's Democratic Party of Abdul Nasser Madhani will work for the success of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front in the coming Assembly elections in Kerala.

Declaring the PDP's stand on the elections at a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram, party working chairman Poonthura Siraj said a decision in this regard was taken following a letter received from party chairman Madhani, a serial bomb blast accused lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.

In his letter sent from the prison, Madhani alleged that the UDF government had failed to fullfil its promises to the party made in the last Assembly elections. Even it had not done anything for his release or getting parole.

Though there were differences with the LDF on certain issues, the LDF manefesto focussed on the development of the state, particularly declaration of Rs 30,000 crore in agricultural sector and schemes for the welfare of the backward communities, he said in the letter.

In the last elections, the PDP supported the UDF.
