With the brewing furore over the incident of an Inspector General's minor son driving an official police vehicle, a court in Thrissur has ordered a case to be registered in the matter.

The Thrissur Juvenile Justice Court, Thrissur has asked the police to file an FIR into the incident and also to file a case against IG Suresh Raj Purohit on charges of allowing a minor to drive official vehicle.

Earlier, the Kerala high court had restrained the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau from taking further action in the case citing the matter does not come under the purview of the bureau.

When Purohit's petition challenging the order came up for hearing, the court asked whether a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act would sustain and asserted that if the Vigilance was yet to register a criminal case on the complaint, it would have to approach the vigilance court for appropriate order.

The vigilance court order came on a complaint filed by K T Benny of Vadakkanchery.

Trouble arrived for the top cop after footage aired on TV channels showing his son driving an official car.
