Attacking Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on power issue, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harsh Vardhan on Friday said that if he fails to provide uninterrupted electricity supply and slash rates as promised during elections, he has no right to stay in office.
"It is the responsibility of the Delhi government to provide 24 hours uninterrupted power supply to the people. Moreover, they had promised 50 per cent reduction in power tariff but people are still getting inflated bills.
"I believe if the government cannot stand on its promises made to public then it has no right to power," Vardhan said.
On Kejriwal's views about not banning khap panchayats citing they had a "cultural" purpose, Vardhan said traditions are richness of our past but the if there is something which is not conducive to today's times, then they have to be changed.
Harsh Vardhan's criticism of the Kejriwal government came after BSES Yamuna Power Ltd informed that areas in central and east Delhi may face eight to 10 hours of power cuts from Saturday as the company was facing serious fund crunch to buy electricity.
Power tariff was also hiked on Friday by up to 8 per cent by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission notwithstanding ruling Aam Aadmi Party's commitment to slash the rates.
Reacting to Kejriwal drawing a list of "India's most corrupt politicians" which includes the names of Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde among others, Vardhan said that he is astonished to see that the ex-chief minister Sheila Dikshit's name doesn't figure in that.
"I am astonished that ex-Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit's name doesn't figure in that list of "India's most corrupt politicians".
"When he had initiated his movement against corruption he had more than 300 pages of evidence against her and now he has formed a government with the support of Congress, whom he calls corrupt," Vardhan said.
