February 16, 2010 14:57 IST

At least two persons sustained bullet wounds and five others were injured in clashes between protesting mobs and security forces on Tuesday during the funeral of two terrorists killed in Monday's encounter in the Koimoh village of south Kashmir's Kulgam district.

A senior police officer said hundreds of protestor's pelted stones at the security forces, defying the curfew restrictions imposed on Radwani village of Kulgam district.

The trouble erupted during the burial of the two Hizbul Mujaheedin terrorists, who were killed in a fierce encounter in the Koimoh village of south Kashmir Kulgam district.

Initially, the police used tear gas and batons to quell the protestors, later when the mob swelled and made attempts to march to the Rampur village where the burial of one of the slain was taking place, they opened fire.

"Seven persons were injured in the clashes with two of them sustaining bullet wounds. The injured were initially admitted to the district hospital in Anantnag town, the doctors then referred five of them to Srinagar for specialized treatment," a police officer said.

The area has been gripped by high tension and authorities have now imposed restrictions in areas around Radwani and rushed in more reinforcements to maintain law and order as senior police and security force officers rushed to the area.

Security forces had during a search operation killed two terrorists including a top commander of the Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit on Monday.
