December 20, 2011 21:31 IST

The state human rights commission on Tuesday ordered the arrest of a deputy superintendent of police who was heading the Special Investigation Team probing the disappearance of a south Kashmir youth in 2007.

Sources said the arrest warrants against deputy police superintendent (Headquarters) of south Kashmir Anantnag district were issued by the SHRC for his failure and disregard to repeated summons of the commission'.

They said the SHRC has ordered senior superintendent of police (human rights) to execute the warrants against the police officer and also seize all the investigation records of the SIT that the police officer headed.

The SIT had been constituted to probe the disappearance of a youth identified as Nazir Ahmad from Zadoor village of Anantnag district.

The youth's father had filed two petitions before the SHRC in 2008 and in 2009 seeking the whereabouts of his son.
