Kashmir: 7 injured in grenade attack at police station

Four cops and three civilians were wounded in a powerful grenade attack at a police station in north Kashmir's Baramulla district Wednesday evening.

A senior police officer said militants hurled a powerful hand grenade at the heavily guarded police station in the highway town of Pattan this evening.

"The grenade exploded inside the police station compound injuring a police sub-inspector, three cops and three civilians. The civilians were inside the police station in connection of a case," the officer said.

All the injured persons were shifted to the local hospital for treatment.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Last week the police station in Sopore town, also in north Kashmir, was attacked by militants without causing any damage.

The overall situation in the Valley was reviewed at a high-level meeting of the core group comprising officers of the army, paramilitary forces and the police.

The meeting took particular note of the recent grenade explosions in Kashmir.
