Karunanidhi turns 90; DMK celebrates

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam President M Karunanidhi turned 90 on Monday with scores of party cadres celebrating the occasion by bursting crackers and distributing sweets across the state.

Karunanidhi began the day by paying homage at the memorials of his mentors, DMK founder C N Annadurai and Dravidar Kazhagam founder E V Ramasamy in Chennai.

Senior DMK leaders, party functionaries, religious leaders and people from different walks of life lined up at his residence to greet him on the occasion.

Later, at the party headquarters -- Anna Arivalayam -- hundreds of party cadre queued up to wish him.

Taking the e-route, the party has added another facility for sending birthday greetings through mobile phone or by accessing the portal --  www.kalaignarkarunanidhi.com.

A series of functions has been organised to mark the occasion, which include blood donation camp and a public meeting to be chaired by Karunanidhi later this evening, party sources said.
