Karunanidhi may visit A Raja in Tihar jail

February 18, 2011 20:00 IST

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi is likely to visit former telecom minister A Raja inside the Tihar jail early next week.

It will be just a one-day visit, but political observers are skeptical over whether Karunanidhi's falling health will permit him for a three hours flight from Chennai to New Delhi.

This will send a strong signal to the DMK cadre and also a political message to the All India Congress Committee that DMK is with A Raja.

Just before the commencement of campaigning for the April assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, DMK cadre is demoralised by Congress' actions.

Speculation is ripe in political circles that since the DMK general council rejected A Raja's resignation from the organising secretary position, now it is turn for the party leadership to reciprocate their warmth to A Raja.

Insiders also say that there is a mounting pressure from Kanimozhi and her mother that Karunanidhi must pay a quick visit to the Tihar Jail as a goodwill gesture.
