Miss Mayavati, the Bahujan Samajvadi Party Chief, announced that the ashes of Kanshi Ram would not be immersed as per the Hindu religion but kept in Urns at the party offices in Delhi and Lucknow and at his official residence where he beathed his last.

"The last rites of Kanshi Ramji would be performed according to Buddhist religion and his mortal remains would be consigned to fire at Nigambodh Ghat. But his ashes would not be immersed in Ganga, Yamuna but they would be kept in the party offices
as well as the official residence for eternity," she said in a written statement that she read out to newsmen.

She announced that the body of the late leader would be kept at 12 Rakabganj Road so that the party could pay their last respects to their departed leader before he goes for his last journey.

"I would carry on and try to achieve the goals that he entrusted me with on December 15, 2001 when he passed on the baton to me. I pay my respects to the departed soul," she said.
