The investigation into the Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi Shankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswati, is the main accused, is nearing completion, the police official heading the probe said on Friday.

Three special teams are on the lookout for the two prime accused, Appu and Ravi Subramaniam, Kanchipuram District Superintendent of Police K Premkumar told reporters in Kanchipuram.

Jayendra Saraswati was arrested on November 11 and remanded in judicial custody for the murder of Varadaraja Perumal temple Manager Sankararaman on September 3.

Replying to a question, the DSP said a decision on whether to summon the junior seer of the mutt, Vijayendra Saraswati, for questioning will be taken after the interrogation of his brother Raghu.

Raghu was grilled for nearly four hours on Friday. Premkumar said the questioning will continue.

The DSP said Appu, who allegedly organised the murder, and contractor Ravi Subramaniam, who is accused of disbursing money to the assailants, are suspected to be hiding outside Tamil Nadu.
