Police grill Mutt officials

December 04, 2004 20:54 IST

The police summoned Kanchi Mutt Manager Sundaresa Iyer and Administrative Officer Neelakanta Iyer on Saturday and questioned them in Kanchipuram for an hour in connection with the assault on former Mutt official Radhakrishnan two years ago in Chennai.

The case has been linked to the Sankararaman murder case, in connection with which Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswati has been arrested.

The special investigation team probing the murder also questioned the Mutt officials on the 'connection between the Mutt and Radhakrishnan', police said.

On Friday evening, Sundaresa Iyer was questioned for nearly eight hours by Additional Superintendent of Police Sathyanarayana.

Some officials from the Bank of India were also present during the interrogation. Some private taxi drivers, who are said to have taken Sankararaman in their vehicles, were also questioned, police said. Some money transactions and withdrawals that took place after the murder were also being investigated, police added.

Police claim there is a link between the assailants in both the cases.
