Kalmadi meets Speaker, seeks to make statement in LS

Chief of the Indian Olympic Association, Suresh Kalmadi, who returned to India along with members of the Indian Asian games contingent from China late on Sunday night, called on the speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar on Monday told her about the performance of Indians athletes in the recently concluded Asian Games and also sought her seek her permission to make a statement on the CWG scam to clear his position.
The meeting between the Speaker and Kalmadi was confirmed by a senior official attached to Kumar in a conversation with rediff.com, late on Monday night.
According to sources within the Indian Olympic Association, Kalmadi was not feeling comfortable ever since he came to know that one of his close aides, who are now in Central Bureau of Investigation custody had named him in the CWG scam.
The agency produced former OC joint director general TS Darbari, former OC deputy director general Sanjay Mahendroo and former joint director general (Finance) Jayachandran before Special CBI Judge A S Yadav on November 22 and they were remanded to CBI custody.
While Darbari and Mahendroo were not cooperating with the CBI, it is believed that Jayachandran spilled the beans. The investigative agency registered two more cases on the basis of the information provided by Jayachandran, involving UK-based A M Films and the former officials of CWG Organising Committee on charges of forgery and cheating in organising the Queen's Baton Relay.
"We would like to question some of the top officials of the Commonwealth Games," a senior CBI official told rediff.com.
"We are looking into the confessional statements by the three persons closely," he said. The only impediment is that Kalmadi is an MP from Pune and the investigating agency seems to be in no hurry to question him. Lalit Bhanot could be questioned at any time.
A close associate of Kalmadi said that the IOA chief would like to lie low for the time being and was not willing to meet media persons.
