JMM to claim berth vacated by Soren in Union Cabinet

December 05, 2006 20:59 IST
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha would claim the berth in Union Cabinet vacated by its chief Shibu Soren following his conviction in the murder of his secretary Shashinath Jha.

"Yes, we would consult with Guruji (Soren) and move ahead," Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister and JMM leader Sudhir Mahto said in Tees Hazari Court in New Delhi when asked if the party would claim the berth vacated by Soren.

When asked about the probability of either of Soren's sons Durga and Hemant replacing him in Union cabinet, he said, "Any decision would be taken unanimously. I cannot comment on any name now."

He said conviction of Soren will have no impact on the coalition government in Jharkhand. Soren's JMM is a major partner in the government headed by independent Madhu Khoda.

Meanwhile, JMM has called for observing 'black day' in Ranchi following the sentencing of Shibu Soren.
