J'khand: RJD MLA arrested for beating up district official

April 29, 2011 01:27 IST
A Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Legislative Assembly was on Thursday arrested after he allegedly beat up a senior government official for "refusing" to take up the agenda brought by his wife and zilla parishad chairperson Kalpana Devi during a meeting in Godda, Jharkhand.

"RJD MLA Sanjay Prasad Yadav has been arrested for beating up District Development Commissioner Dilip Kumar Jha during the zilla parishad meeting," said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Bansal.

The DDC filed an FIR accusing the legislator of slapping and punching him in the midst of the meeting. Yadav also filed a counter FIR, the police sources said.

According to eyewitnesses present in the meeting, Yadav was upset with the DDC because the latter took up the government's agenda instead of the agenda brought by his wife and zilla parishad chairperson.

Meanwhile, replying to a query on the issue at a press conference in Ranchi, Director General of Police G S Rath said action would be taken against any one flouting law.

Congress MLA Yogendra Sao is now in judicial custody in connection with assaulting a block development officer earlier this year.
