Stung by recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union government has asked the state to take a fresh look at its policies of dealing with militancy.

"The state government should take a fresh look at its policies and approaches so as to see the drawbacks which resulted in the recent attacks," Union Minister of State for Defence Chaman Lal Gupta said on Tuesday night.

Talking to villagers in Udhampur district, where 13 people were killed and nine injured in a terrorist attack on March 16, he said:
"The Centre is taking all possible steps to curb the menace of terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the people."

Gupta appreciated the courage of the local people in their support to the security forces in dealing with Pak-sponsored terrorists.

He visited the site of damaged police post and also the village houses which were burnt.
