Two Hizbul Mujaheedin terrorists were killed and a Junior Commissioned Officer of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) injured in a fierce gunfight in the Reasi district of Jammu on Sunday evening.

A defence spokesman in Jammu said troops spotted two terrorists in Thanol village in the district and challenged them.

"The terrorists entered a local mosque, which was surrounded. When asked to surrender, they hurled two grenades at the security forces who, however, maintained restraint where upon the terrorists moved out of the mosque and took shelter in a hutment," Lt Col Viplav Nath, army spokesman, told rediff.com.

"An encounter ensued after which both terrorists were killed. A JCO of the counter insurgency RR was also injured during the encounter," he added.
