North Kashmir's Sopore town continued to simmer with protests and shutdown for the fourth day on Monday following the militant ambush that left two people dead and six others wounded.

At least eight people were injured on Monday in clashes between protestors and security forces in the town, where massive searches are being conducted to trace the militants responsible for last Friday's ambush.

Protests again erupted early on Monday prompting the police and paramilitary and central reserve police forces to use batons and tear smoke to disperse mobs.

At one point, the police fired shots in the air to disperse the stone-pelting mobs.

Police sources said at least six protestors were injured and were taken to the local hospital for treatment.

The Central Reserve Police Force and the police have intensified patrolling in the town where tension continues to be high.

House-to-house searches are being conducted in the town to look for the militants.
