Rukhsana Kausar, who shot into limelight by killing a Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorist, and her brother were on Tuesday awarded Rs 2.5 lakh reward and a job in the police department by the state police.

The announcement was made by the state Director General of Police Kuldeep Khuda during his visit to the Rajouri district of Jammu region.

Rukhsana shot into prominence when she challenged a group of heavily armed terrorists who barged into her house near Rajouri on September 27 last.

Snatching the automatic weapon from one of the terrorists, Rukhsana and her brother opened fire, killing a top Lashkar commander identified as Osama and wounding another one.

Rukhsana had met country's president Pratibha Patil during her visit to Rajouri district in October this year.

The police chief announced a police job for both Rukhsana and her brother.

It must be mentioned that Rukhsana had earlier turned down the government offer to employ her and her brother as special police officers (SPO's) on a consolidated monthly packet of Rs 3000 each.
