The Jammu and Kashmir police has lost 898 officers and jawans besides 470 special police officers (SPO) in past two decades while fighting the militancy in the Valley . Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khuda said this while speaking on the occasion of releasing of Parakaram Padak medals to 463 jawans and officers of the police.
Khuda said that the medals are awarded to those personnel who have sustained injuries during the counter insurgency operations. Khuda said that 'the personnel are honoured with medals as a source of encouragement and recognition of their valour in dealing with the situation in the state'. The state police chief said that 528 personnel have, so far, been awarded with this medal.
The DGP asked 'the force to remain on guard and make strenuous efforts to bring peace in the state for better development.' He said such initiatives needed to be carried forward tirelessly till the state achieves its goal of complete peace and normalcy.
He asked the forces that while conducting the operations against the militants, they should ensure that the common people do not suffer and stressed for maintaining better relationship with the public to help police achieve its objective.
