The Amarnath yatra was suspended on Saturday due to closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the wake of a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Udhampur district of the state.

"Due to heavy rains, a massive landslide closed the 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Kheri in Udhampur district late Friday night," SSP Traffic National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal said.

The authorities have also suspended the Amarnath yatra from Jammu base camp, he said, adding the other traffic was also not allowed on the highway.

The men and machines of Border Roads Organisation are working to clear the landslide and the highway is expected to reopen by this evening, he said.

Some vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway, he added.
